2 months old!

Megan informed me that I have been neglecting my duties as a blogging mother and need to post updates about Violet. Well, dear Megan, to hear is to obey. Without further ado, pictures of a 2 month old Violet (who is actually 10 weeks as of tomorrow, but I don't know that any of these pictures are that recent):From March 10, 2011 (16 days old)

From March 11, 2011 (17 days old)

From April 2, 2011 (1 mo. 10 days)

From April 17, 2011 (1 mo. 25 days)

From April 27, 2011 (2 mo. 4 days)

From April 27, 2011 (2 mo. 4 days)

Violet is a happy baby and started smiling with great regularity around 5-6 weeks. A couple weeks ago, she began trying out laughing as well. She has always been a good night-time sleeper, with 4-5 hour stretches as soon as we brought her home from the hospital. Around 6 weeks, she started sleeping 6-8 hours through the night, and the last few days she has been sleeping about 9 hours straight! We are very grateful and relieved, especially as she is not one for napping during the day. My mom says I can't complain, so I won't :)

She is a very active and intense baby. She can move herself around on the floor (she slides around on her back by pushing her legs against the floor), and she is eager to sit up and stand if we support her. She loves playing piano with her daddy, going for rides on the dogs, and her favorite song is "I Feel Pretty" from Westside Story. She also loves smiling at mommy and herself in the mirror.

As of her 2 month appointment on April 25th, she is 23 inches long (76th percentile), 11 lbs. 2 oz (46th percentile), and her head is 15 inches around (49th percentile).

I am completely infatuated with our little princess, and I will try to be more regular about updating the blog. As soon as I can figure out how to get pictures off my phone, I will put up more pictures of her smiling, eating her fists, and other magnificent feats.

LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT!!! She looks like a completely different baby to me--and so precious! Such big eyes and such pretty red hair. And what a delicate little fairy princess face! Ohhh!!! I can't wait to meet her and give her lots of kisses and snuggles. Her cousins Camryn and Tamsin send their love as well--Tamsin said Violet could have the pick of any of her toys, and Camryn offered to hold and carry Violet (but was denied...as she is denied when attempting to hoist her own sister into the air). We love you, little girl! And we love your mommy and daddy too, even if we feel less inclined to scoop them up and kiss their faces. No offense, guys...it would just be weird.

FINALLY!!! I love the photos! She looks so much like Micheal. Wow, I can't wait to see her (well all of you guys!) again. You are so lucky she sleeps that long. You really have nothing to complain about. James started sleeping 6 hours straight at a little less than 2 months and I thought I was lucky. There were a few occasions when he slept 8 hours straight. But not enough to make me happy. I almost hope our future children are overdue too, because they say the bigger the kids are when they are born the longer they sleep and the easier they catch on to breastfeeding. You are one lucky momma.

I love those candid pictures. I can vouch for the fact that Violet's hair is red and getting redder. We were looking at pictures of Michael as a baby, and she looks like a close replica. (We are hoping that she does not begin to sprout the beard...)

She is, indeed, beautiful. I love to hear all about her. Thanks for the great post, you two.

Ooooh, I don't know. I personally would rather be awakened in the wee hours for a feeding than go ALL DAY LONG with a napless child who insists on sleeping in my arms. Yikes. Motherhood is hard, and even "easy" babies are a LOT of work. Go ahead and complain.

And I must compliment Violet on her musical tastes! She can enjoy the mental image of me high-stepping around a football field in a feathered hat playing my saxophone to the "West Side Story" repertoire (yay, high school marching band). Though cousin Camryn is a bit more partial to the tunes from "The Sound of Music," particularly when I channel my inner Catholic, put Camryn's blankie on my head, and sing "How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria?". It's a real crowd-pleaser.
